" and that a boat carries water on shore " 2000

The exhibition programme in Lightcliff art center was very ambitious and specialised. It aimed for each artist to produce work especially tailored to the natural surroundings of the place, something that had rarely be done in Iceland before.The exhibition space was in a building that had formerly been used for working fish, alongside the lava, close by the sea. A home for old seamen was nearby, I got in contact with some of them in the purpose to draw their shadows which I then painted white on glass. Above each shadow was a photo from an archive of the Icelandic association for sea rescue. The relation between man and sea, the shadows, danger of the ocean, the boat carcass, the refraction of light in the water...
