Blóð jarðar ( Blood of Earth ) - No. 5 Umhverfing ( Around ) 2024
The artwork consists of a lava rock that was found by Sandfell, where lava flowed and melted the glacier in the last volcanic eruption in Öræfajökull 1727. The rock was attached to a meat hook in the ceiling of the old slaughterhouse, then melted on a pile of sheepfat, which flowed onto the floor and solidified there with a black lava glaze which had formed during the melting. The wool bales are the remains of the meat carcasses. On the opening day, glacial ice was collected from Jökulsárlón and placed in bags. They were then hung up on hooks, ink colors allowed to drip onto the melting ice where paper on the floor below caught the drops. The people that lived off the sheep for centuries are gone but the glacier still houses the volcano...
