Bræð(r)alag - Fraternité 2011

On the first day of winter 5 lava rocks were fused together in a hole during the opening of a new Sculpture garden. The rocks came from volcanoes in France, Italy, Japan, China and Iceland where the artist had worked before on different lava projects. Representatives from the 5 countries formed a circle around the hole, then the audience around them, thus manifest a brotherhood of mankind. On a wall in the garden the artist wrote a graffiti poem with the alphabets of the nations informing us that all languages are essentially the same. The mysterious letters written on the wall might have been a message from earth, a encouragement for a conversation between different cultures, in the same way the lava rocks form a brotherhood in the park.
