Sea and sky - Earth kitchen 2002

" The Icelandic artist arrived in Kyoto with one lava stone and a book, The Saga of Iceland, from the end of the Viking period 1183. After his arrival in Kyoto he discovered a flower called SAGA chrysanthemum. At the same time the Icelandic SAGA and the Japanese Samurai became part of history the flower was brought to Japan by a Buddhist monk who came from China in the late 12th century. Inside the room, from the ceiling of the " kitchen " two lava stones are suspended. By using welding equipment he melts the two lava stones together and by that unifies them. Then the transformed material is presented on white dishes in the court yard. Every day from 03 - 05 PM there will be coming new and fresh lava " dishes " from the kitchen. "
