Smokedrawings 1991

The walls of the gallery were covered with many layers of smoke drawings on various fabrics. Not unlike the atmosphere of an oriental carpet shop. The artworks are made in such a way that a candle flame has sooted and drawn images on used curtains, tablecloths, sheets, duvet cover and more. The smoke is the soot of the fire and the fire is the primary force, the basis of human culture. The smoke is a message from one to another. The smoke is the moment and I capture it as a testimony of an event. The smoke is a visible spirit and when the spirit is created, it settles in fabric and stays there for a longer or shorter time.
