Landscapes of Trauma 2020

Landscapes of Trauma was an exhibition intended to connect the audience to a narrative of trauma relating to natural disasters. My works were inspired by the Laki volcanic fissure in southern Iceland that erupted over an 8 months period 1783-84, spewing lava and poisonous gases that devastated the agriculture, killing much of the livestock. Estimated quarter of Iceland ´s population died through the ensuing famine. Jón Steingímsson 1728-91 later called the " the fire clergyman " wrote... more poison fell from the sky...ash, volcanic hairs, rain fall of sulfur and saltpeter, all of it mixed with sand. All the water went tepid and light blue...All the earth´s plants burned, withered and turned grey, as the fire increased...
